Biographical Information

Louis F. Heimlich was born in Reynolds, Indiana on April 13, 1890, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Heimlich. He was graduated from Monticello high school and then entered Purdue, earning his B. S. Degree in Science in 1914, and a M. S. degree in 1916. Later, he won his doctor's degree at the University of Wisconsin. Mr. Heimlich was an accomplished artist and while at Purdue was cartoonist for the Exponent, and art editor for the Debris.

Following his graduation, Heimlich joined the Purdue faculty, having charge of botany for several years. He then went to Valparaiso university, when it was taken over by the Lutheran church to become head of its botany department.

Mr. Heimlich was a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Botanical society of America, and the Indiana academy on the flora of White county, of which he made a comprehensive study.
