Biographical Information

Professor Walter Q. Fitch was a staff member of the Purdue extension department, and was one of Indiana's leaders in the field of agricultural education. He was a state leader of the Farmers' Institutes. He was superintendent of the state corn show from 1916 to 1928; assistant superintendent of the International grain and hay show at Chicago from 1919 to 1925 and numerous other projects. During 1915 he was in charge of the Indiana exhibit at the Pan-ama-Pacific exposition in San Francisco and in 1926, in charge of the state exhibit at the sesquicentennial exposition in Philadelphia. He served several years as assistant superintendent of the agricultural department at the Indiana state fair. During World War I, in addition to handling his university duties, he was assistant secretary of the state food production and conservation committee in charge of the Indianapolis office. He also had been in Washington several times planning special exhibit work for the department of agriculture. Walter Fritch was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho, social fraternity, of Alpha Zeta, honorary agricultural fraternity and of Epsilon Sigma Phi, honorary extension fraternity. He also was charter member of the Lafayette Optimist club and had been active in many civic projects. He was survived by a daughter.
