Biographical Information

Lawrence Aloysius Downs graduated from Purdue University in 1894 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Downs played on the champion 1892 and 1893 football teams and was a member of Chi Epsilon. In 1926, he became the president of the Illinois Central Railroad. He continued to work with railroad companies around the country until he retired.

Acquisition Information

The scrapbook was donated by Mary Downs Oakley in early 1978. The clippings albums were donated by Oakley on October 11, 1978.

The items have been housed in acid-free folders and acid-free boxes.
