Biographical Information

Annie Smith Peck was a lecturer, accomplished mountain climber, and suffragist. She was a professor of Latin and elocution at Purdue University from 1881-1883 before travelling to Europe to pursue an advanced degree. Peck attained notoriety for her ascents and held the American record for women for climbing the highest point in the Western Hemisphere. In 1911, she climbed Peru's Mount Coropuna and raised a "Votes for Women" pennant at the summit.
