Campus views and scenes circa 1908

Scope and Contents

The photo album documents campus scenery and buildings at the beginning of the twentieth century. A few off campus locations and different seasons are captured. Fowler Hall and Ladies Hall are the most prominently featured buildings in the photo album. Images include: Heavilon Hall, Fowler Hall (7 images), Agricultural Experimental Station (today Agricultural Administration building), Agricultural Hall (today Pfendler Hall), Locomotive Testing Plant (4 images), Class of 1897 Gates (2 images), Ladies Hall (including 12 photographs of the interior in light of the Junior prom), Power Plant II, Mechanical Laboratory, the Lion Head and Memorial Fountains. The photo album belonged to Charles W. Leber who graduated with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Purdue in 1908. The photographs are believed to have been taken during his tenure as the staff photographer for the Debris and the Purdue Press Club as many photographs from the Debris 1908 are taken from the Leber photo album. The photo album was donated by the grandson of Charles W. Leber. The collection consists of one photo album in fragile conditions with some loose pages. The collection may be useful for researchers interested in campus and university buildings present at the early twentieth century. Types of materials include: black and white photos, photo album.

Biographical Information

Charles W. Leber, a native from New Jersey, graduated from Purdue University in 1908 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. During his time at Purdue, he was a member of the Purdue Press Club, A.I.E.E., the New Jersey Club and the Athletics Association. He was also the staff photographer for the Debris.
