One manuscript box containing condolence letters and cards received by Carol Armstrong following the death of Neil A. Armstrong in 2012. Some of the condolence materials include stories of personal experiences, photographs, and clippings. Letters include those from Neil Armstrong's Purdue classmates and families; U.S. Naval Service friends; former colleagues from the Experimental Test Flight Center at Edwards Air Force Base, NASA, and corporate boards; close friends of Neil and Carol Armstrong, and the general public.

These letters were shipped to Purdue Archives by author James Hansen at the request of Carol Armstrong. The letters were loaned to Hansen by Carol Armstrong while Hansen was conducting research for his book, A Reluctant Icon: Letters to Neil Armstrong, 2020.
