Biographical Information

Marion Blalock, born in East Chicago in 1947, graduated from Washington High School. She earned a BS in Sociology and Psychology and later an MS in Counseling and Personnel Services from Purdue. She worked in Purdue’s Dean of Men’s Office and later was the Assistant Dean of Students (1974). She went on to be an advisor in Engineering where she helped start the National Society of Black Engineers at Purdue, and programs dedicated to the advancement of minority students in Engineering. She received multiple outstanding service awards from Purdue and national organizations.

Marion Blalock was a student on the Purdue campus in the early 1960’s and later participated in the establishment of Purdue’s Black Cultural Center. As an advisor for Purdue’s Engineering students, Marion worked on the inception, implementation, fundraising, and on-going management of the Minority Introduction to Engineering (MITE) program at Purdue.
