Historical Information

The American Railway Building was built in 1926 to house a new draft gear testing machine. After the American Railway Association moved to a new building, the American Railway Building was re-designated as the Mechanical Engineering Annex in 1955. It was renamed the Student Services Annex #2 in September 1986 and was used by the Dean of Students' Office. More recently, the building has been remodeled and is used entirely for the offices of minority affairs, affirmative action, and women's resources. The building was renamed the American Railway building again in 1994. President Beering pointed out that this designation would recall the building's origin and would also be neutral in terms of whatever functions would occupy the building. In 1997, an air conditioning unit was added to the building.
