Historical Information

Project Mercury was the first program designed for human spaceflight by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and was followed by Projects Gemini and Apollo. With the hopes of successfully placing humans on the moon before the Soviet Union, Project Mercury conducted 20 uncrewed flights and six with astronauts.
